For the past two years, the community of Watson has been raising money for upgrades on the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge.

The Quill Plains Lodge is a seniors level 4 care home in Waston that is looking to add a wing on the building that consists of 12 beds. The east wing also is in need of renovations, along with upgrades to the tub room in the facility and to bring the laundry room up from the basement.

The mayor stated that the town is looking to get help from the provincial government with costs on the project. Watson is contributing 20 percent of the payment for the upgrades which is a total of $1.6 million. So far the community has raised $400,000 and only have a year left to raise the remaining 1.2 million if they want to reach their goal of getting the lodge upgrade approved by next year. Plus the longer the town waits, the larger the cost for the construction.

So Watson has asked multiple Rural Municipalities throughout the region for donations to make the necessary upgrades. The town of Watson will also be asking for donations from people throughout the surrounding area forms of commitment which will be payable when the project is approved.
