Another teacher's exceptional teaching skills earned her the Horizon School Division Excellence in teaching award.

Judy Lockwood received the award at the Humboldt Uniplex right before the school year kicked off.

The award is given to a person who raises the standards as a teacher while helping children learn to the best of their ability. In order to be eligible for the award, a fellow colleague must nominate the teacher. Judy Lockwood was nominated by the principal at Watson school.

"My classroom focuses on meeting the kids where they are, doesn't matter where they start out, and as long as we're moving forward. So everyone is working at their own pace, some are ahead, some are still catching up, and some are just coming here every day and learning," said Judy Lockwood on her teaching style.

Lockwood was one of five teachers who won the award before the school year started. She is teaching Kindergarten and Grade 1 this year at Watson school.
