With vaccinations being an important task this time of year, it looks to be even more apparent, especially for infants and young children.

Cases of whooping cough have been discovered in areas surrounding Humboldt. Currently, the highly contagious bacterial disease, that is spread through the air from coughs or sneezes, has been found in areas such as Wakaw, Rosthern, and Hague, among others.

Whooping cough can be fatal in rare cases but it usually involves symptoms that include coughing, runny nose, fever, similar to those of a cold.

Infection from whooping cough can be prevented by a vaccination. So be sure that vaccinations are up to date especially in young children.
