Taylor Wolff made his first court appearance in Saskatoon on Monday.

The 31-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of James Carlson.

Wolff's lawyer, Chris Lavier, says that his client has been investigated for several years by police, and isn't sure what prompted the arrest and subsequent charge.

Wolff was arrested near Moose Jaw on Friday, bringing to light the first piece of major news in the now eight-year-old murder case.

On May 14, 2008, Carlson went to the local video store in Watrous, which was his last confirmed sighting.

Five days later, his work truck and tools were abandoned in a field near Allan, with his home being investigated by police the next day, eventually leading to support evidence of murder.

Police are still investigating.
