Some residents gathered at Civic Park in Humboldt on Saturday to take part in the 22 push up challenge.

The idea behind the challenge is to raise awareness for Wounded Warriors, according to Andy MacAnally, one of Saturday's participants.

"It was set-up to help veterans with post traumatic stress disorder," he explained. "Since 2004 to March 2014, 160 veterans have taken their own lives and that is more than what we lost in combat service in Afghanistan."

MacAnally says that the challenge began on social media last year, and also serves as a fundraiser.

"It started last year. The idea is you post it on Facebook and involve your friends. So you do 22 pushups in 22 days," he noted. "Once you do the challenge, you agree to make a donation of 22 dollars."

Locally, funds have been raised for Paws for Veterans through the Humboldt branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

There was also an event held last year for Wounded Warriors Weekend, says MacAnally.

"That's where we get service dogs to help veterans and first responders who have PTSD," he said. "We've also done a walk that came through Humboldt for Wounded Warriors last year. That's an event that sends wounded vets out into the wilderness to become one with nature and get rid of some of that stress."

This year's event is being held in Lloydminster from July 27 to 31.
