The torch is lit for an emotional 15 day journey from Regina to Nipawin for the annual Wounded Warriors Weekend.

For the first time, Humboldt and our area will be among the stops along the route that will commence in Nipawin on the weekend of July 28-30th.

Chris Siddons is a veteran of the Gulf War and is participating in this year's event.

"It's an opportunity for veterans to get together from the United States, the United Kingdom, from Canada, Australia, it's just a fun weekend of fishing, shooting, talking and peer support groups."

Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield lit the torch Thursday morning so it now begins it's trek north on Highway 6.

Wednesday, July 13th the torch will arrive in Wynyard, from there it continues to Watson on the Thursday.

On Friday, July 15th the Wounded Warriors walk lands in Humboldt.

There will be a fundraising supper next Friday night at the Legion in Humboldt, contact Sherry at 682-6643 or Niki at 231-6219 for information, or you can stop by Causeway Natural Health.

Siddons explains more about the weekend portion in the north-east city.

"There's no judging on this weekend, it's four days of being around people who get it and understand. They can be empathetic and compassionate towards each other."

The Wounded Warriors Weekend was created in 2012. You can find a complete schedule, registration forms and more information on their website.
