UPDATE: 935 pounds and $418 dollars was collected at Friday's game for the food bank.

The Wynyard Golden Bears are going to host the Watson Raiders for a special game Friday night under the lights in high school six man football.

As part of the event they are collecting food and monetary donations for the Wynyard & District Food Bank.

Bears Head Coach Morris Sokul explains more about the partnership with a local business.

"The Sofina employees which are the Lilydale employees in town has joined up with the WCHS staff and students, we're trying to tackle hunger in our football region. The Raiders are collecting food as well which they will bring to the game with them to contribute.

Your admission will be cut in half if you bring a donation. Sokul says believe it or not their local food bank is far too busy.

"Right now our food bank services a wide area, they are averaging over 60 food a month. Last year we kicked off this project with the Watrous Wildcats and we had an enormous response."

Kick off is at 7 o'clock, a pregame bar-b-cue sponsored by the Wynyard Co-op and Scotiabank gets underway at 5:30.

Anyone that brings donations will also be eligible for door prizes at halftime.
