A young boy has asked the City of Humboldt to sponsor the ice time for his proposed Skate-a-Thon.

Duke Brochu's idea is to help raise money for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation.

"I would just ask a bunch of different people to come out, and they would ask people to donate money per minute they skate or give them a cash donation."

Brochu was just recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over the summer. He tells us a little more about his story.

"I was with my Grandma at Kenosee Lake just before school started. She has type 2 diabetes so show knows the signs of having it so she told me to test when I got home. That's when I found out."

Brochu hopes that one day a cure for diabetes is found.

Brochu will be the first Diabeauty to participate in a ceremonial puck drop at a Humboldt Broncos game. The program is put on by Kaleb Dahlgren, you can read more about his story here.
