First a back story, I love fishing in the fall. The water is cooler which means three things; it's easier to fish from shore because the fish come closer to the bank, the water loses its green tinge and becomes crystal clear and the fish taste better.

So my brother and I, seeing that we had a perfect November day on our hands, loaded up the truck and headed to St. Brieux to fish from the boat launch. After being there a few minutes my brother, using a silver spoon caught a decent sized Jack (a good sign). I decided to move closer to the boat launch hoping for deeper water. Now the boat launch consists of cement pads that go into the water, they are extremely slippery. I took one step and I slid three feet into the water (thank god I was still standing).

Deciding the best course of action was to get farther into the water i walked in till I was just past where the cement pads extended so I was standing on gravel.

10 minutes of casting yielded nothing of import, a few weeds, an old hook and a few faint nibbles. So being the showman I am, I decide to announce to Myles that, "THIS IS THE ONE, I'LL CATCH A FISH ON THIS ONE, PAY ATTENTION." I lean back and throw the hook out and I've got goose bumps, I know I'm catching something on this cast. I reel in taking care to have lots of action on the lure. About halfway into the reel I feel a bump, good sign, but no take. I continue to reel and at the point where I begin to see my lure I see a Jack trailing it....

Like any good fisherman I slow the reel, wait for a pause and give a jerk. The fish hit the lure like it insulted his mother. Now two things happen simultaneously, I cry out in joy, "GOT EM,"  and I take a stepback onto the slippery cement pad.....

In all of a second I'd caught my fish, slipped on the cement and found myself in a foot of water. Now all the benefits of fishing in the fall don't seem as important as your laying in the frigid water. I take a moment to get my bearings and notice my rod is slowly leaving my side. Standing up with a battle cry I grab my rod, drap myself up to shore and reel in a very reasonably sized jack.

The morale of the story my friends is if your going to get wet fishing, you better bring home the fish to prove it.

Happy fishing everyone!
