Abraham Ralph Hordos
September 24, 1939 – October 23, 2023

Abraham “Abe” Ralph Hordos was born on the family farm near Quinton, Saskatchewan on September 24, 1939. He went to school, near the farm at Ravensburg in the“Raensberg” School District and worked for various farmers. From there he met his wife, Avis, in 1970 and they were married. Abe worked for Degelman Industries in Regina, SK, as a painter and welder. The love birds welcomed Renee in 1971, followed by Ryan in 1975, Teanda in 1976, and Tyler in 1977. They settled in Watson, SK. Abe worked on the Sproule farm before working at Doepker Industries as a welder. He retired from Doepker’s in 2005. After retirement he enjoyed helping out at the farm in Quinton, SK. Abe’s interests included playing violin, guitar and other musical instruments. He also liked word search puzzles, scratch tickets, watching Seinfeld, and complaining about the Roughriders, Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. Abe was a member of coffee row and the Knights of Columbus. He was also very involved with the church and would lead the praying of the rosary regularly. Abe adored his grandchildren and enjoyed drawing pictures with them. Abraham is survived by: his wife of 52 Years, Avis (née Miller); his children: Renee (Bill) Garbanewski and son Ryland; Ryan (Marsha) Hordos and daughter Isabelle; Teanda (Jeff) Hordos and son Andrew; Tyler (Kyla) Hordos and dog Lexi; brothers: Anton (Nora) Hordos, and Adam (Debbie) Hordos; sister Yolanda (Ron) Teichreb; sisters-in-law Dianne and Violet, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by: parents Frank and Alma; brothers Joe and Frank; and sisters Julia and Alma. Prayers were held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Watson, SK, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., with Brad Gaetz presiding. The Funeral Mass was offered at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Watson, on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Francis Akomeah. Others taking part were: Jarrod Teichreb, cross bearer; Renee Garbanewski, scripture readers; Ryan Hordos, intentions; Kyla Hordos and Izzy, gift bearers, and Marsha Hordos, eulogist. Music ministry was provided by The Sacred Heart Parish Choir. Pallbearers were Tyler Hordos, Ryan Hordos, Tom Aspel, Michael Hordos, Todd Deutsch, and Adam Hordos; and honorary pallbearers were “All those who shared in Abraham’s life”, with an honor guard provided by the Knights of Columbus Watson Council #5850. Following the service, a memorial luncheon was held at Sacred Heart Church Basement. Interment followed the luncheon at St. Mary’s Hungarian Parish Cemetery, in Quinton, SK.
