The life of a veterinarian is not all sunshine and rainbows.

As a pet owner, I feel that sometimes we take for granted the long hard hours that vets and staff put in. Trying to save lives, trying to deal with upset clients, and mostly managing their sanity. You may think that they have a great time playing with the animals and saving lives of cute dogs and cats. Keep in mind the animals that can't be saved, the owner who can't afford to do anything or the bite wounds they receive trying to help injured animals. People take for granted the work that these strong and amazing people put in.

This past week I had to deal with a vet first hand and not just for a simple check up.I received a call on Wednesday evening telling me that someone very close to me had rolled their vehicle, in that vehicle was also a very scared husky. Lucky the driver of the vehicle came out unharmed, but I had to make sure the dog was okay too. I called the Vet.

If anyone has ever called the vet after hours your call goes to an answering machine where you can get the number for the on-call vet for emergency situations. Was this an emergency, I looked into the back seat of my car and saw blood coming from the dog's mouth. I thought it was an emergency. I called.

I was phoned back with the message of, "meet me there in 15?" The Vet looked him over, head to toe and everywhere in between. The dog had bit his lip and cut his foot, but was fine.

I found out that this particular Vet was in the middle of cooking supper and had to leave her home to come out on a cold night to help the dog. Veterinarians and staff who take care of our family pets deserve to be recognized for the work they do. They calm down pet owners and take care of our furry creatures at the same time. I would like to thank the Vet that was there for me that night and also for the hard work all veterinarians do every day.
