Yes the Humboldt Broncos were once again on the wrong side of a lopsided outing away from the Elgar Petersen Arena Friday night but believe it or not there was a point the conclusion could have differed.

The green and gold gave up last minute goals in both the first and second periods en route to an 8-2 pasting at the hands of the Flin Flon Bombers at the Whitney Forum. The Forum is actually the site of Humboldt's last road win, that came way back on September 25th.

"We've got to learn that you can't be puck focused," Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko explained on the post game show. "It's the guys without the puck that can be the most dangerous, it gave us some fits again tonight. Obviously two late ones, obviously one in the first, one in the second that really changed the difference in the game again."

With the two goals within the final minute of each period Friday, Humboldt has allowed 21 goals in the final 60 seconds of periods so far this season. You can add five more if you extend the time to the final two minutes, another handful of goals have come within a minute of Humboldt scoring one of their own.

The Bombers opened the scoring Friday night, Tyson Empey tapped a centering pass past Carter Seminuk 5:38 in to force Humboldt into an ever familiar early hole but this one was shallow.

Daniel McKitrick would tie it just prior to the midway point of the first, the 18 year-old speedster blew by Braden Lacoursiere and tucked his 15th goal of the year past Zac Robidoux to knot the game at 1-1.

The Bombers would respond with authority burying three straight to end the period, including retaking the lead not even a minute after the tying tally.

Nick Shumlanski would make it 2-1, Brandon Lesko pushed the score to 3-1 and in the final minute Mitch Foyle made it a three goal lead heading into the first break.

Scoring slowed down in the middle stanza but again that late goal against in the second proved costly.

Chris Van Os-Shaw continued his torrid streak since coming over from Weyburn, the 18 year-old buried a Logan Schatz rebound cutting the lead in half with his 12th goal but Foyle responded almost immediately.

His second came with 54 ticks left in the middle frame and just 25 seconds after Van Os-Shaw's to reserve a 5-2 score going to the final frame.

Despite the three goal deficit Humboldt kept coming but Robidoux stood tall making a number of key stops as his team laid off in defense mode but none more important than back-to-back pad saves on Trevor Posch with the game still in question at the 12 minute point.

Then in the final five minutes the home team would make sure they escaped with the two points. St. Brieux product Cory Thomas slapped his second goal of the year past Ryan Larochelle who came on in relief after the first period. Lacoursiere added his second of the year in similar fashion 57 seconds later and 39 seconds after that Rylie Zimmer made it 8-2 to cap the scoring.

"The score isn't quite the key indicator here," Klimosko added about the large goal difference. "It was a pretty good effort for the most part, we've got to stay positive when times are positive. Tonight was one of those nights where there was some good things for sure."

Goaltending was another aspect that wasn't detrimental in the loss, Seminuk allowed four on 14 opening period shots, all were in tight tap ins. He was relieved at the start of the second by Larochelle, he stopped 26/30. Robidoux was stellar making 26 saves, many being quite difficult.

Special teams equaled anything but, both teams were 0/5.

The Broncos will travel across northern Saskatchewan to LaRonge for a Saturday night date with the Ice Wolves, puck drop is 7pm. The pre-game show of KMK Sales Broncos hockey starts at 6:45.

Humboldt remains seven points back of the Yorkton Terriers for the final playoff spot, the Terriers were blanked 4-0 in Nipawin. The Melville Millionaires are one point back of Humboldt, they were doubled 4-2 by the Battlefords. Also around the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Friday night, the Weyburn Red Wings pounded Notre Dame 8-1 and at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort Travis Mayan stole the show. The 20 year-old sniper notched his 200th career point, his 100th goal, he surpassed the 40 goal mark for the second straight year and last year's Player of the Year picked up a natural hat trick in a 5-2 win over Kindersley.
