The Humboldt Broncos and Notre Dame Hounds wrapped up the 10th and final edition of the dog and pony show on Sunday, March 6th. Once again, for the 9th time out of 10 meetings, it was the pony that was best in show as the Broncos held off the Hounds en route to a 4-2 road victory.

The Hounds broke through first just two minutes into the game when Kevin Anderson tipped home his 27th goal of the season past Broncos’ netminder William Dyke for a 1-0 lead.

Jared Kaplowitz secured his first career SJHL goal on an individual rush up the ice and a long-distance wrist shot that beat Ryley Osland to tie the game 1-1. The Broncos then found their first lead of the game as Alec Saretzky sent another seeing eye shot from just inside the blueline that got through Osland. It was Saretzky’s first goal in 10 games and 28th on the season.

The blueline kept producing points for the Broncos in the second period. Quinn Myles broke into the high slot and took a feed from Lucas Ceccarelli before beating Osland on the high glove side for a 3-1 lead. Overall, defenseman contributed 50% of the goals and points in the win.

With the goalie pulled in the third period, the Hounds were gifted a 2 on 0 breakaway, which they capitalized thanks to Elliot Dutil’s 36th goal to get back within one. However, with the net empty for a second time, Ethan Zielke iced the game with his 8th of the season and helped secure the Broncos 4-2 win.

Dyke picked up his 4th victory this year, stopping 25 of 27.

The Broncos’ lone loss against the Hounds this season came in the third meeting between the two teams, a 3-1 defeat way back on October 12th.

This was the second last game of the regular season for Humboldt who improved their record to 44-13-0-0. They’ll wrap up the schedule on Friday, March 11th in Kindersley before heading into the playoffs as the league’s second seed.
