The Humboldt Broncos split their weekend home and home with the Melfort Mustangs. Friday night's game in Melfort saw the Broncos fall on Mustang's home ice by an 8-4 margin.

The Broncos went toe to toe with the Mustangs until Melfort went on a four goal tear starting in the second. Melfort opened the scoring in the first with a pair of goals inside the first three minutes. Humboldt responded before the halfway mark in the third thanks to a goal by Alec Saretsky with an assist from Cage Newans, and a marker by Matthew Van Blaricom off Ben Kotylak and Maddox Amaral. Melfort and Humboldt exchanged singles before Melfort opened up with four unanswered goals.

It wasn’t until midway in the third that Humboldt found its stride again on a goal from Saretsky, but the Mustangs’ Aidyn Hutchinson wrapped up the night with two minutes left. Shots were even with 34 on each goal.

On Saturday back on home ice, the Broncos returned the favour taking a 6-2 win.

Cage Newans, Maddox Amaral and Noah Barlage all posted first period goals, with Mustang Ryan Dugauy registering the sole Melfort goal in the opener. The second period was all Humboldt with Alec Saretzky scoring and Amaral getting his second of the night.

Spenser Bell closed out the scoring for Humboldt with a third period effort. Goalie Benjamin Motew got the win for Humboldt.

The Broncos are back on home ice this Wednesday when the Kindersley Klippers invade the EPA. Then on Friday the North Battleford North Stars are in town for the first of a weekend home and home. All the action is right here on 107.5 Bolt FM.
