The Humboldt Broncos turned up the late season excitement when they faced the Battlefords North Stars this weekend.

The home and home ended up in a split with a Friday night victory in North Battleford's Access Communications Centre. The Broncos skated away with a 5-3 win after a 1-1 first period. Broncos’ defenseman Quinn Myles opened the evening with a goal assisted by Daylan Weigel. Battlefords’ Steven Kesserling, one of the top producers in the league, replied just over a minute later.

Scoring resumed in the third when Kesserling opened up for a marker. Bronco Matt van Blaricom responded and the two teams traded goals until late in the third when Alec Saretsky hit the back of the net, and van Blaricom finished off the evening’s scoring for the win.

Kesserling helped Battlefords flip the script on Saturday back home. Again, the matchup produced an even 1-1 opener in the first as Saretsky and Kesslering traded goals. Battlefords took the upper hand in the second with a pair, while a stellar effort on attack by Lucas Cecarelli led to a shorthanded Broncos single.

Kesserling resurfaced midway in the third, and another outstanding effort by Noah Barlage, along with Ethan Zielke and Tim Kim brought the EPA to life. Humboldt never took their foot off the gas in the dying minutes, but an empty netter for Battlefords gave the go ahead insurance in their 5-3 win.

Get set for mid-week action when the Weyburn Red Wings pull into town for a Wednesday tilt. A 7:30 start time at the EPA and right here on 1075 Bolt FM.
