It was a busy night for crews with the Wadena Volunteer Fire Department as they responded to two calls within six hours of each other.

The first call came around supper time from Fishing Lake First Nation involving smoke from a fire behind a house.

The second call came just after midnight, alerting firefighters of a structure fire in Wadena. Responders found a house heavily involved with fire coming from the windows and roof line. The fire crew’s aggressive attack contained the flames and saved surrounding houses, but the involved structure was a total loss.

Two pumpers, a tender a rescue unit, along with 10 fire fighters, EMS and RCMP responded to the call. There were no reports of injury in either blaze.
