Another massive rainfall hit Humboldt 15 days after the previous storm causing more flooding and basement damage.

Mayor Rob Muench says this is the worst he has seen in his neighbourhood in the last 33 years .

He talked about the different water systems within the City. "There are three separate water systems that come into play in the city. There is the drinking water system, the sanitary system, and then the large piped storm system. The super pipes are more on the sanitary sewer water system. The super pipes are not to take water off the streets like everyone thinks they are."

The volume of water that we see on the streets is not necessary due to a problem, Muench explains. "The volume of water that comes in such a short period of time. (Is what causes the issues) This is the same system that has been in place for the last number of years. We have done a lot of work to correct the doable things that don't cost millions of dollars."

The City of Humboldt may apply for provincial funding, but more data is required. Some basements are seeing sewer backup or water damage, and if you're one of those affected, you are asked to report it to City Hall when they reopen on July 2nd.

"Most people don't realize that the storm system is designed to hold water on the street until the system can catch up. Unfortunally, because the last couple of storms were so fast and intense it just backs up and it is compounded with people driving on the street."

The Red Cross has also supplied the City of Humboldt with some basement clean up kits that you can get for free. You can contact City Hall to arrange pick up starting on Thursday.

Muench would also like to thank everyone that came together to help like city workers, RCMP, Humboldt Fire Department, citizens and more.
