The Horizon School Division has responded to the recent announcement from the Saskatchewan Teacher’s Federation.

“The STF and the Government of Saskatchewan, through the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee, have been working to negotiate a new collective agreement. Horizon School Division’s Board of Education and Director’s office respect STF members’ rights to engage in the processes that are involved in reaching a collective agreement,” stated Kevin Garinger, Director of Education for the Horizon School Division in a release on January 11.

Despite ongoing talks and a recent review by an independent conciliation board, the Provincial Government and the STF have reached an impasse in their negotiations. On January 11, the STF declared a province-wide strike to be held on January 16.

“All STF members, including speech-language pathologists, psychologists, learning coaches, coordinators, teachers, vice principals, and principals, will withdraw professional and voluntary services for the entire day," stated the Division in a release. "As such, regular classes, transportation, and extracurricular activities shall be cancelled for all Horizon schools on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Students are required to refrain from coming to school on this day.”
