It’s a sure sign of fall when the pumpkins ripen on the vines in Pilger. The annual Pilger Pumpkin Festival is on this Saturday, September 30 at the Pilger Community Hall. All the traditional trappings that people have come to expect will be back this year.

Of course, a highlight is the pumpkin weigh in which starts at 2 pm. With ample moisture and hundreds of hours of sunshine this summer, the pumpkins could tilt the scale with some record breaking numbers. There are also the judged events such as best pumpkin carving and best pumpkin pie. Those entries need to be in by 2 pm because judging begins at 3 pm.

As always, there’s plenty for the kids to do. Bouncy castles will once again be on site, along with games and racing, pumpkin painting and face painting. Other activities include raffles, door prizes, musical entertainment and the trophy and award presentations.

A barbecue goes from 2 – 7 pm with hamburgers and hotdogs on the menu, juice, coffee, and of course no Pumpkin Festival would be complete without pumpkin desserts. The day wraps up with fireworks at dusk, courtesy of Horizon Fertilizers Ltd.

Help usher in fall with friends and family at the Pilger Pumpkin Festival on Saturday.
