The Humboldt Broncos were victors on the road and back at home against the Nipawin Hawks this past weekend.

Ben Costantino led the way with a four-point night and the Broncos used a three-goal third period to separate themselves from their out-of-division frequent foe and double up the Hawks 6-3

Matthew Van Blaricom picked up his team leading 12th of the season to open the scoring and give the Broncos a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

The low scoring affair lasted another 15 minutes until the levee broke loose and goals started flowing in. Constantino struck again, and there were contributions from Marik Mamic and Spencer Hughes.

On Saturday back at home, the Broncos struck again with a 5-3 win. After a scoreless opening frame and an exchange of single goals in the second, the Broncos went to work with four goals to the Hawks two.

The Broncos looked like they were breaking the game open in the third period, scoring three straight goal to take a 4-1 lead.

Complete momentum was controlled by the green and gold, starting with a highlight of the night goal by Matthew Van Blaricom.

MVB, a nickname suitable with his 13 goals in 12 games this season, danced around the defenders, breaking the ankles of Vito Biondo, before undressing Ronan Buckberger, one of the league’s top young defenseman, and finally firing a shot over the blocker of Endall to give the Broncos their first lead of the game.

Broncos’ Marik Mamic and Spencer Hughes scored scant seconds apart, and Landen Stromme found the back of the empty net to wrap up scoring.

The Broncos hit the highway for an extended road trip, including the Showcase. They’ll be back on home ice on November 25 when the Melfort Mustangs roll into the EPA.
