Aron Dunn and his family's lives will be changed forever due to senseless act of violence that took place in Surrey BC.

On the evening of June 16, at approximately 10:00 pm, the Surrey RCMP responded to a call about a woman with life-threatening injuries in a residence near the 9800-block of 182A Street, in the Port Kells neighbourhood of Surrey. The Surrey RCMP, with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service (PDS), quickly located and arrested a suspect near the scene. This suspect remains in custody on unrelated charges as the homicide investigation continues.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken charge of the investigation into the tragic death of 30-year-old Tory Dunn, a young entrepreneur whose life was senselessly taken in a late-night incident on June 16, 2024.

Aron Dunn, who lives in Annaheim SK, shared the heart-wrenching details of his daughter's life and the events leading up to her tragic death. Tory was a vibrant, kind-hearted individual who had built a successful landscaping business from scratch. She was a pet lover, fostering dogs, and had just returned from a wellness trip with friends. She was planning a future with her fiancé, filled with dreams of marriage and starting a family.

"This was a random, senseless act of violence. Tory was in her own home, minding her own business, living her best life. This could have happened to anyone, and it shouldn’t have happened at all. The justice system in our country is a joke. This individual had a history of violent offenses, including a stabbing just weeks before he killed my daughter, yet he was released on a $500 bail."

Aron and his family, along with the community, are calling for urgent justice reform to prevent such tragedies from happening again.

"Legislation needs to change. This didn't need to happen, and it shouldn't happen to anyone else," Aron urged. "We are going to fight for justice for Tory, and for all those who should be protected by our justice system."

The community has shown immense support for Aron and his family, with hundreds attending a vigil for Tory on June 22 to honor her memory and to draw attention to the need for justice reform.

"We are outraged, and the community is outraged. We have to put my daughter to rest, but we are committed to fighting for justice."

IHIT is working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the BC Coroners Service, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Staff Sergeant David Lee of IHIT stated in a media release, "Our thoughts are with Tory’s family and the community. We are committed to advancing this investigation to determine all the circumstances surrounding this senseless act."

IHIT is asking anyone with information, dash-camera, or surveillance video from the area around the 9800-block of 182A Street, Surrey, to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

As the Dunn family prepares to lay Tory to rest, they remain resolute in their mission for justice and legislative change.

"No one should have to go through this. This should never have happened. We are going to fight for justice for Tory and for all those who should be protected by our justice system."

For those wishing to support the Dunn family, contributions can be made through the GoFundMe page set up in Tory's memory. Aron expressed his deep appreciation for the community of Surrey for their support and emphasized the need for continued efforts to reform the justice system to prevent further tragedies.
