The Muenster baseball factory had churned out another MLB prospect.

On June 5th, Logan Hofmann was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 35th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

The right-handed pitching Hofmann played his past two seasons with Colby Community College in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. He was the KJCCC western division Pitcher of the Year this past year after posting an 8-4 record and a team-high 128 strikeouts. The three years prior he dressed for the Muenster Red Sox 18U AAA baseball hotbed. Hofmann also represented Team Saskatchewan at Western Canada Summer Games, the Canada Cup, and the Canada Games before taking his talents south of the border to Colby.

"The draft is three-day process and I was taken on the third day. I was kind of following the draft throughout the day. My mom, my dad and I were all sitting there and we all had it on our phones. My dad, all of a sudden, said that I got drafted, but I didn't have that pop up on my phone yet, so I thought he was joking with me. Then the team called 20 seconds later and that's how it went. There was a lot of yelling and screaming, everybody was pretty excited," said Hofmann.

That phone call is something not many aspiring baseball players ever receive. To have an MLB exec call, to realize the hard work throughout the years have amounted to this point, and have an MLB team take a chance are all things Hoffman dreamed of and relished when the experience came.

"It was awesome, one of my dreams come true. They said, 'yeah we just drafted you.' It was tough to find the words. I've seen it happen on tv, but yeah, I was pretty excited. Everyone was going crazy, then it was a rush to get texts sent out so everyone could come over."

The phone call isn't the moment where the hard work stops, but Hofmann has been through the grind until this point. That drive can be looked back upon to inspire other local kids who have the same dream to keep working, and one day, possibly receive the same call.

"Just every day, whether it's something you do for 10 minutes or two hours, you have to work hard at whatever you do. You'll get there if you keep putting in hard work and focus. Whether it's watching a baseball game and taking notes from that, or training and working out, make sure you're focused in on what you're doing, and eventually good things will happen."

Sometimes it takes an army to propel a young baseball player to become an MLB prospect, and Hofmann wasn't short on support. He listed a long list of coaches from youth ball all the way to his time with Colby Community College. This list included his dad, Chad who was his coach throughout his time with Muenster and Team Saskatchewan.

The third day of the MLB draft happened on Wednesday, June 5th and decisions now loom for Hofmann. He will have to decide if he wants to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals organization or go back to school and continue playing college ball. Either way, the baseball future is bright for the right-hander out of the baseball hotbed that is Muenster, Saskatchewan.
