The Humboldt and District Gallery has announced the opening of two new exhibits, Raven Speaks by Rolf Krohn and David Macknak and Prairie Structured by the Four Monkeys set to open on January 12, 2023.

Raven Speaks features acrylic artwork by Rolf Krohn with poetry by David Macknak.

“This exhibit explores the many facets of the Raven and its appearance in a variety of cultures,” says the Humboldt and District Gallery.

The other exhibit on display is Prairie Structured which focuses on the exploration of Saskatchewan landscapes, and buildings created by the Four Monkeys.

The group consists of Olivia Maney, Annchen Bodenstab, Ui Hyang Kim, and Joanne Fagnou Bolen, and the mix of artists brings forth a range of mediums such as ink, acrylic, watercolour, and alcohol ink.

“The group can change a little bit; a number of rural artists started to get together on a regular basis about once a month to work together and it was a little bit of a joke. We were going to see about putting a show together with four local artists, but couldn’t figure out what to name ourselves, and there was a running joke that none of us ever listens, talks too much, and never pays attention to see. It just started as a joke,” says Olivia Maney with the group.

Ui Hyang Kim, one of the artists, spoke about her work, and where she found inspiration.

“I am from South Korea, and when I moved here about 10 years ago, the Saskatoon sky really attracted me, and my garden. I usually paint my garden, because, in the summertime, the water coming through my garden area looked really beautiful in the moonlight. I love those memories, so I am painting those things.”

The Gallery will be hosting an opening reception to meet the artists and discover more about their works on Saturday, January 14, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The artist's talk starts at 1:30 pm.

Both displays will be open until February 24, 2023. The Gallery is open every Tuesday - Saturday from 1:00 - 5:00 pm.
