SGI has announced that their traffic safety spotlight for February is speeding.

Every month SGI and law enforcement shine a traffic safety spotlight on a different traffic safety issue.

Tyler McMurchy, spokesperson for SGI, said that with Valentine's Day right around the corner, "We're a bunch of hopeless romantics at SGI, so we wanted to talk a little bit about love and specifically the love between a driver and their vehicle."

He said that, "Slowing down is actually an act of love for your vehicle, and "We talk about the importance of obeying those posted speed limits, they're not suggestions, they are the law."

McMurchy explained that slowing down lowers the chances of getting into a collision or getting into as severe of a collision, it improves your reaction time, and "it's going to keep your vehicle safe along with any of the humans that you're transporting in it, or pets and the other people that you share the road with."

"Speeding is a serious issue to be sure, and it's one of the leading factors in collisions that do result in people being injured or killed on Saskatchewan roads."

He said that slowing down also reduces the wear and tear on your engine and other mechanical parts, and it will help to avoid an expensive speeding ticket.

McMurchy added that they encourage people to follow SGI on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok, where they often share traffic safety tips and other important information.
