Sole-stice track and field meet is coming back for another year. The youth track and field venture provides an avenue for kids to be introduced to different events and helps to spark an interest in continuing in the sport. Meets are held throughout the province, and Humboldt’s is coming up on May 27. Athletes born from 2010 to 2015 are welcome to participate.

Nicole Unrau has been working with the meet since its inception in Humboldt.

“The kids can come and participate in a variety of running, jumping and throwing events, and it’s completely free,” Unrau explains. “We’re just trying to get kids involved in the sport, to come out and have some fun competition, and we’re hoping for some sunshine as well.”

The top two athletes in their events from each of the regional meets will go on to the provincial meet in Saskatoon on Saturday, June 17. Unrau says there are no official practice times for the events, but athletes are welcome to come to the track at Glenn Hall Park and test out the facilities. On meet day, the athletes will gather ahead of time to become familiar with the rules.
