The SOLE-stice Classic is a track and field event for elementary school youth born between 2009 and 2014. As with other youth sporting events, it’s had to be on hold for a couple years, but organizer and track mentor Nicole Unruh is excited to see its return.

“It’s a sponsored event by Saskatchewan Athletics, and there is even a provincial meet where the top two kids in each category get to move on. It’s a fun and semi-competitive event for elementary track and field athletes.”

The developmental meet is geared to younger participants with events that are designed specifically for them. Unrau explains that races may involve shorter distances, shot put is replaced with a softball throw, and jumping events have more flexibility on design and rules. The events are modified from their high school counterparts so every youth athlete can participate.

Interested athletes born between 2009 and 2014 can sign up online at www.solesticeclassic.com. On the site, participants can look up the Humbodlt location and sign up from there. The event schedule is also posted.

The SOLE-stice Classic takes place in Humboldt on Sunday, May 29 at Glenn Hall Park starting at noon.

“We’re hoping for great weather, and we’re hoping to see lots of young athletes come give track and field a try,” says Unrau.
