Summer marches on, and so does the construction season in Humboldt. Paving will soon be wrapping up in town. One additional major project to be tackled is a set of turning lanes for motorists to access 21st Street just west of Humboldt Commons. Work is progressing well according to the City of Humboldt’s Public Works Department. Department director Peter Bergquist talks about the improvements.

“The turning lanes at 21st Street will include widening of the highway on the north side and a little bit on the south side to accommodate the lanes west and northbound and also east and northbound. It’ll give the motoring public an opportunity to keep traffic moving while people are turning.”

East bound traffic will see a through lane go in on the south side of the highway. That lane will then transition into the eastbound turning lane into the Uniplex from Highway 5. Berguist says the left eastbound lane will be open, at that point, to through traffic.

Given a string of mostly sunny days in the forecast, work is predicted to wrap up in relatively short order, says Bergquist.

“In a week or so, they plan to have that wrapped up, pending weather and other unforeseen issues.”

Work continues on the south side with Highway 20 improvements. Once again, the indication is that work on that project will conclude in a week to a week and a half, weather permitting.
