A Wakaw Warrior is trading maroon and white for maroon and navy.

On June 1st, 2020, Wakaw Warriors DB/LB, Tyler Skoworodko, signed as a defensive back with the Regina Thunder of the Canadian Junior Football League.

"I'm super excited and just ready to get going and practicing with the guys," said Skoworodko.

In Skoworodko's final season as a Warrior, he registered a team-leading 62.5 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 8 knockdowns. The defensive powerhouse was also a turnover machine with two interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries.

Skoworodko managed to pitch in on offence as well with 10 rushes for 76 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was also a target for any quarterback under center, with 12 catches for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Arguably the Warriors best defensive player in 2019, Skoworodko plans to bring his attributes to the Thunder and learn a few things along the way.

"I feel I'm pretty football smart and I can hit pretty hard. If the Thunder coaching staff can help me tweak and perfect my skills, that'll be great."

Amid COVID-19, there haven't many opportunities for Skoworodko to attend camps or workouts for the Thunder. So with a few virtual workouts and meetings before signing day, the Thunder felt the need to sign the Wakaw Warrior football star.

While playing with the Thunder, Skoworodko will be attending the University of Regina for Police Studies. This is the second straight year that Wakaw has produced a CJFL level athlete with Jack Bellefontaine signing with the Kamloops Broncos in 2019.

Skoworodko sent his thanks to his family, the Wakaw Warriors football program, and the community of Wakaw for their support.
