2019 Campbell Cup goes to the Young Guys

After back to back victories by the Old Guys in the past two years of the annual golf competition, the Young Guys got it done on Saturday, August 17th by posting an impressive 18-11.

Humboldt Golf Club hosted the annual event in which a team of 15 Young Guys play matches against 15 Old Guys. In all, there were 29 matches in this Ryder Cup-style event. Each group of four golfers play a six-hole two-man scramble match, a six-hole better ball match and finish with 2 six hole individual matches.

“Our team jumped out to an early lead in the scramble matches. We won four matches, tied two and lost only one of the scrambles and that momentum carried over to the better ball matches in which we won three tied two and lost two,” said Young Guy captain Aaron Baker,

The Old Guys mounted a small comeback in the individual matches but it was too little, too late as the Young Guys won eight of the last ten available points.

“There were some great efforts out there today. Two of our pairings swept their matches,” said Blair Plemel, who was named this year’s MVP, was a member of one of those pairings that won all four points for his team.

After an eighteenth hole trophy presentation and celebration golfers were treated to a great supper in the clubhouse.
