The Intersection at Main Street and 5th Avenue may finally be straightened out sometime in the coming years.

Associated engineering is conducting an examination of the intersection over the next few months for $56,000 to determine what needs to be done to make the intersection much safer.

There have been many pedestrian collisions at the location for many years as traffic on 5th Avenue must turn onto Main street before continuing down the Avenue. Also when a train comes through town, the right lane gets congested and can halt traffic on 5th avenue as well.

A traffic study back in 2009, which was run by Associated engineering, started the conversation on the realignment. If the city council decides to go ahead with the realignment, the time construction will take place is unknown.
