After a period of outreach, research, and technical management, the Mid-Sask Municipal Alliance is pleased to announce the launch of its Mid-Sask Business Database. The idea is to connect business across the MSMA Region to contractors, consumers, suppliers and communities. Fully searchable by industry and business capability, the database helps companies find what they need, in a format they require.

It also presents exciting opportunities for regional businesses to reach new customers, says CEO of the Mid-Sask Municipal Alliance, Celine Favreau.

“The database is really set up to generate new sales opportunities for businesses across the Mid-Sask Region. It’s just officially become open to the public, so if businesses in the region haven’t registered yet, now is the time because we are going to be marketing the service over the next number of weeks.”

The strength of the database is predicated on the diverse array of businesses and services available throughout the Mid-Sask area which encompasses  Humboldt, Watrous, Jansen, Manitou Beach, Nokomis, Lanigan, Drake, LeRoy and all other communities within a 100 km radius of the BHP Jansen Project. Strongly supported by anchor mining giant, BHP, the project encourages the support of local manufacturing, mining, trades, technical and professional services offered within these communities, impacting the economic growth of the overall region and positively affecting local businesses, families and communities.

A two-year funding commitment from BHP, plus in-kind support from key partners Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce, Watrous-Manitou Marketing Group and Carlton Trail College, has enabled regional cooperation and focus on the database’s intent, design and functionality.

The MSMA press release notes that annually in Saskatchewan, $10 billion in sales are currently going to businesses providing goods and services serving industrial, mining and energy projects. Regional businesses are encouraged to look for opportunities in these sectors, as well as in important regional sectors such as agriculture, tourism and commercial services, by either providing goods and services directly to a project, or by jointly partnering with other regional businesses to bolster a contracting or supply opportunity.

“We are going to be marketing the database over a six month period and putting a lot of effort into promoting the directory,” notes Favreau, “So businesses that are registered are going to have an opportunity to be showcased.”
