Monday, June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day, and Humboldt Cultural Services and the Humboldt District Chamber of Commerce are joining for a noon hour virtual Lunch and Learn on Understanding Treaties. On hand to guide viewers through the presentation and discussion will be Amy Seesequasis from the Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC). Seesequasis is a Cree with Metis heritage from the Beardy’s Okemasis First Nation. She makes a return visit virtually following last month's online presentation on Truth and Reconciliation.

“We have a lot of questions about what Treaties mean and what does it mean to all be Treaty people,” says Jennifer Fitzpatrick, director of the Humboldt and District Museum. “We’ve had conversations about Humboldt being in Treaty 6 territory, and so we want to ask Amy to share information about what that means for our community.”

Fitzpatrick agrees that the presentation is a way for the community to recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day and learn more about issues commonly faced. Participation is open to everyone who pre-registers. Registration is done through the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce Office at (306) 682-6990 or you can email a request to admin@humboldtchamber.ca. Registrants will be sent a link to access the Zoom presentation.

“We just ask that people come to listen and learn,” Fitzpatrick says.
