Ice fishing has long been a past time for anglers in the Humboldt region.

This year ice conditions have been changing with bone chilling cold temperatures up to melting days in late January.

Bruce Reed, a Conservation Officer with the Ministry of Environment, reminds everyone about the guidelines for being on ice.

"A minimum of four inches if you are walking on the ice, six inches if you want to drive a snowmobile or a quad, eight inches for a car or light pick-up truck and 12 inches if you are going to be driving a heavier truck."

The regulations for ice fishing are to have a fishing licence, operating no more than two lines at one time, be with in visual sight of both lines at any given moment and not be more than 25 meters from the fishing lines.

Ice fishing shelters south of Highway 16 must be removed from the ice no later than March 15th and shacks north of Highway 16 must be removed no later than March 31st.
