Wadena Town Council passed its 2018 budget Wednesday, which included a tax adjustment to make up for a $20,000 drop in provincial funding.

Council adjusted the base tax and mill rate factor, CAO Ferne Hebig said.

That means a two to seven per cent increase in property tax for residential properties and a minimal increase to commercial properties.

Residential properties will shoulder a bit more of the overall tax burden to reflect the cost of residential waste disposal.

The town budgeted $800,000 to $900,000 to add four new dressing rooms to the rec centre.

“We’re hoping that’ll increase usage. You can hold more tournaments and longer tournaments.”

The town will also pay just under $200,000 for a waterslide at the pool, as it was by far the most requested feature for the pool in a resident survey. The pool is expected to be ready for next summer.

“A pool is generally something that isn’t going to make you a ton of money, but obviously the more use you're getting out if your facility, the better off you are.”
