Eldon Herbert Schroeder
June 28, 1948 – June 23, 2022

Eldon Herbert Schroeder of Saskatoon, SK, (and formerly of LeRoy, SK), passed away at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Thursday, June 23, 2022, just five days before his 74th birthday. Eldon, the first of two children, was born to Herbert and Frieda (nee Ludwig) Schroeder in LeRoy on June 28, 1948. He attended elementary school in LeRoy, and all but one year of high school there as well, except for one year taken in Lanigan. He then continued his education at SIAST in Saskatoon where he received a diploma in baking. Eldon farmed for most of his life, taking over the family farm from his father. He also spent time at the Lanigan Feedlot and worked many years as a baker at Watson Bakery and Wynyard Bakery. Eldon started dating the love of his life, Lynda Schroeder, in 1978, and they were married in 1979. Eldon and Lynda were devout Christians, attending Jansen Zion Lutheran Church, and LeRoy Community Church later in life. They spent many years leading the Luther League and were also active members with the Kinsmen Community Club. On October 19th, 1990, they adopted their first son, Karl. Derek was soon to follow, being adopted on March 31st, 1991. In a very short amount of time, Eldon and Lynda had their extremely long-awaited new family together. Eldon and his family attended Elbow Bible Camp for many summers, and in the winter, it was hockey with his boys. Eldon fell into poor health in the summer of 2001 and had a long road to recovery. After rehabilitation, he loved baking and cooking at home, spending many hours tending to his garden, and helping local farmers as much as he could. In 2010, Eldon and Lynda sold their farm to BHP Billiton and moved their family home into LeRoy. After Lynda’s passing, and with failing health, Eldon moved into Saskatoon and lived at Oliver Lodge until his passing. Eldon will be greatly missed by his boys, Karl (Kristina Ehrlich), and Derek; his sister Grace Diegmann; mother-in-law, Frances (nee Briske) Schroeder; Lynda’s siblings: Leila (Rick) Dornan, Lorelei (Murray) Orchard, and Allen (Sylvia) Schroeder, and their families; lifelong friend, Giselle Bouchard; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife Lynda; his parents, Herbert and Frieda (nee Ludwig) Schroeder; father-in-law, Jim Schroeder; brother-in-law, Norbert Diegmann; and his best friend David Bouchard. The Funeral Service was held at Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen, on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Pastor Glenn Shore. Others taking part were: Pastor David Hepburn, homily; Angel Liebrecht, pianist; Leila Dornan and Lorelei Orchard, scripture readers; Giselle Bouchard, eulogist; Karl and Derek Schroeder, active urnbearers. Honorary urnbearers were “all those who shared in Eldon’s life”. Interment followed at Jansen Cemetery.
