It’s a testament to the quality and flavour of the food when the demand outstrips the supply. It’s a good sign when it happens.

The regular noon lunch at the Gathering Place in Humboldt on September 18 featured the Filipino cuisine of Joerem and Christine Juson of Humboldt. They brought some Philippine favourites to the fundraising lunch. The menu included spring rolls, traditional noodles, a savoury stewed chicken, and dessert buns. In the wake of their success at this summer’s Street Fest, the couple, with help from friend and fellow business owner Lorena Taquiqui, decided to prep a similar feast to share through the Gathering Place.

Based on previous lunches, the couple prepared for the usual numbers. When the doors opened, the patrons flooded the Gathering Place and emptied the trays in around half an hour. The Jusons plan to be back for a future lunch with their traditional dishes, this time ready for a horde of hungry diners.
