Frances Rose Ewen (née Sobry)
January 26, 1941 – October 26, 2023

It is with great sadness the family of Frances Ewen announces her passing on October 26, 2023, at 82 years of age. Fran was born January 26, 1941, to Frank and Hilda (née Kurtenacker) Sobry in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. She attended Humboldt Public School and Humboldt Collegiate Institute where she enjoyed playing and competing in the Marching Band. She married Edward Ewen in 1959 and became a hard-working farmer’s wife and lived on their farm near Burr until 1971 at which time they moved into Humboldt. She raised four children: Dean, Scott, Coreen and George which resulted in 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. For most of her life she worked in retail; she worked at Richmonds, Stylerite, Hobby Hut, The Dollar Store, Yuen’s and also worked for Stats Canada. Fran spent many years bowling in the bowling league. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking and most of all giving. While raising her own kids, she had helped and guided many young people get back on track, willing to give a helping hand, a hot meal, or even a place to stay, but with rules and stipulations. Fran was an avid Humboldt Bronco supporter. She had season tickets for over 35 years and billeted more than 50 players. One of Fran’s greatest treasures was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They brought the most joy to her life. She was one of their biggest cheerleaders, attending: hockey, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, football games and dance competitions. She loved each and every one of them. Her face lit up every time she was able to visit them. Family meant everything to her. Fran will be lovingly remembered by her 4 children; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Dean of Burr, SK and family: Brandi (Wade) Poirier and children: Jase, Brokk, and Thorsten; Christina (Tyler) Yost and children: Rhett and Hope; and Dustin; Scott (Linda) of Humboldt, SK and family: Arlee Kopeck and children: Austin (Amber), son Tolkien; Emilee; and Holly, daughter Mia; Jeremiah (Karen) Kopeck, and daughter Carter; Cameron, and daughter Azalea; and Kaylee (Matt) Topola; Coreen of Humboldt, SK and family: Giles Baran; and Amesha Baran; George (Gail) of Humboldt, SK and family: Chad (Hayley) Lummerding, and daughters Stella and Sienna; Jillian (Keenan) Suer, and daughters: Avery, Oaklyn, Quinn and Rylee, Jenny (Nick) Pratchler, and daughters: Kenzie and Jessie; and Josh (Hayleigh); her siblings Ed (Sophie) Sobry of Kelowna, BC, Doug (Heather) Sobry of Saskatoon, SK and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Fran was predeceased by her father, Frank Sobry; mother, Hilda Wutke Sobry (née Kurtenacker); and stepfather, William Wutke.
