Humboldt Collegiate welcomes eight area girls basketball teams for this year’s Kevin J Grieman Memorial Pink tournament. The Collegiate squad is part of the Pink Movement that has been going on for a number of years. The tournament honours long time Mohawks coach Kevin Grieman.

“The Pink Movement is a theme that’s been going through Saskatchewan for quite some time now,” says coach and organizer Kerri Archibald. “Every year at our Pink Tournament, we raise funds for somebody in the region who is battling cancer. So, this year, all of the money raised will go to one of HCI’s own staff members who is battling.”

Part of the fundraiser is a raffle table set up that people can buy tickets to win the prizes. There will also be a shooting competition for players and coaches to buy into on Saturday at 2:30.

Eight regional teams will be pulling into HCI for a Friday night start, says Archibald. HCI tips off against rival Melfort at 5:30 pm on Friday. Lanigan and Foam Lake starts the tournament at 2:30 pm, Wynyard and Bishop James Mahoney of Saskatoon go at 4:00 pm, while Meadow Lake and John Paul II of North Battleford round out Friday’s action at 7:00 pm. The playoff pool kicks in on Saturday morning.

An admission at the door and the canteen helps to cover the costs of hosting. All other funds go toward the local cancer cause. Come on out this weekend and enjoy some great basketball while helping with an exceptional cause.
