The rings are down, the ice is in, and the usual crop of curling enthusiasts are back at the Humboldt Curling Club. Action is already under way with a number of leagues, and residents are invited to find one and try their hand if they’ve not done so before.

Shawn Wempe, president of the Humboldt Curling Club, is glad to see everyone back.

“We’ve got our Monday and Wednesday afternoon league for all ages that runs from 1 – 3:30,” Wempe explains. “We’ve got our Monday and Tuesday Fun Nights open for everyone. On Wednesdays, we’re starting a ladies drop in night on November 8. The first Wednesday of every month, there will be a new theme. There’s no commitment – just show up if you can and have some fun. Finally, on Thursdays we have our men’s league rolling.”

Coming up soon will be the youth leagues on Tuesdays from 4 – 5:30, and for the novices, there is a Learn to Curl program for youth Monday after school. For adults who want an introduction to the sport, keep your ears open as more details will be coming shortly.

The club will also host the increasingly popular U13 and U15 CurlSask Triples Championships in March, but this weekend, the Club will welcome a big event. It’s the CurlSask U20 Cup #2, a cash spiel that welcomes the best U20 curlers in the province. Local team Fleischhacker, skipped by Ethan Fleischhacker and backed by Ashton Luciano, Hudson Ilg, Carter Huls and fifth Reid Hoppe will be among the favourites.

There will be much more with future spiels and events set to be announced during another exciting year at the Humboldt Curling Club.
