The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon presented by CIBC Wood Gundy is in full swing on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days.   

They are continuously trying to raise money that will go toward lifesaving equipment and procedures at the children’s hospital that will provide the ability to help kids across the province battle diseases, and illnesses.   

Over the course of the next two days, listeners across the province will hear stories of children and their families who were able to access the children’s hospital thanks to the generosity of the Saskatchewan people.   

Chaydin Inverarity of Moose Jaw went in for a routine anatomy scan when she was 20 weeks pregnant to find out the gender of her baby, Wells. As doctors did the scan, she was told certain parts of his brain were not visible. Chaydin underwent tests such as an MRI and amniocentesis at the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital to determine Wells' condition. 

"Honestly, Jim Pattison's is such an amazing facility. The people that work there care so much. Everyone has shown us so much positivity and they have been so great with support and finding us resources for Wells," she said. 

When she was 39 weeks pregnant, Chaydin was told that Wells had MPPH Syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition. At the time, Wells was only the 76th person to be diagnosed with MPPH Syndrome worldwide. 

"As far as I know, there are only 16 or 17 cases with this specific gene mutation. He's a rare kiddo for sure," Chaydin said. 

It was also later discovered that Wells had a tumour on his adrenal gland. After further testing, he was diagnosed with right adrenal neuroblastoma. 

Since being born, Wells has attended many appointments at the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital in the neurology, neurosurgery and oncology departments. He also goes to physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology. 

"In the beginning of Wells' life, we went quite frequently, around every six weeks or so. Sometimes we would see other people in between those appointments. Now we are maybe once to twice every three months or so," Chaydin said.
