Joan Catherine Urban
August 1, 1938 – March 29, 2022

The family and friends of Joan Urban mourn her passing on March 29, 2022. She was 83 years of age. Born in Bruno District, to her parents John and Elizabeth (née Holfels) Urban, Joan grew up on the family farm until the age of seven. At this time, she moved to Weyburn, SK, where she was cared for and lived for a number of years until moving to Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw, SK. This was her home until 2017 when she moved to Christian Horizons in Warman, SK, where she spent the last six years. This last chapter was a time of flourishing for Joan, she was supported by a caring, loving staff. Here she developed close family relations with her caregivers and her housemates at Cherry Lane. A lady with a wicked sense of humor, Joan was the life of the party. She loved any type of hat to add some flare and sun hats were always on for her miles and miles of walking tours! Coffee was one of her ‘favorite things’, close at hand or in your hand! If Joan found a cup sitting idle and full, she would drink it for you and she loved her Timmy’s! Little quirks were her love for pickles and sitting with her legs crossed in opposite directions! But she had a soft side too. Like a grandmother doting on her family, Joan would adjust a collar or smooth a wrinkle, until everything was ‘just so’. These were signs of connection that the staff were privileged to see. And their kindness, taking Joan on many outings, did not go unnoticed. A highlight was visiting her only surviving sibling, Leo, in Bruno. She had the chance that day to visit her home and birthplace. Joan was a dear soul, and she will be dearly missed by her brother, her nieces and nephews and their families, and her family at Cherry Lane. She was laid to rest at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Cemetery on June 10, 2022. May she rest in peace.
