The long weekend brings higher traffic volumes and unfortunately an increase risk of accidents. Saskatchewan Day saw a tragedy on an area highway.

Around 2:00 p.m. on August 1, Lanigan RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision eight kilometers west of Lanigan on Highway #16. The driver of an SUV, an adult male from the Wilkie, Saskatchewan area, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult female passenger of the SUV and the lone adult male driver of a second SUV, were transported to hospital with unknown injuries.

The collision scene fully blocked Highway #16 and traffic was rerouted for several hours while RCMP Collision Reconstruction completed their on-scene investigation. The investigation into the cause of the collision continues by Lanigan RCMP and RCMP Collision Reconstruction.
