Norbert John Maier
October 15, 1943 – May 22, 2022

Norbert was born on October 15, 1943 to Ludwig and Sophie (nee Lermer) Maier at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt. He was the second youngest of seven children. He grew up on a farm south of Muenster and attended Banner School, a one-room schoolhouse about 3km away from where he lived. Norbert eventually took over the farm and continued farming his entire life. On October 23, 1967, Norbert married the love of his life, Audrey Muyres in St. Gregor, SK. Together they were blessed with four children: Jerome, David, Vernon, and Lorne. He loved the outdoors and spent as much time outside as possible. He took great pride in his work as a farmer and loved the land. He was inventive and resourceful, repairing, and modifying his equipment in the most creative ways. Norbert was an avid hockey enthusiast and devoted fan of the Humboldt Broncos. He took an avid interest in his boys’ minor sports and attended countless hockey practices and games. He also took a great interest in his son’s careers; he had gladly made sacrifices to ensure that all his sons received a good post-secondary education. Norbert was also very involved in the community, serving on the Knights of Columbus, The Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, Wheat Pool Committee, and as a board trustee for the Muenster School. Norbert will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his wife of 54 years, Audrey; four children and eight grandchildren: Jerome (Dawn) Maier and son Kristen (Kim) Chenier; David (Chelsea) Maier and daughters Johanna and Rachel; Vernon (Melissa) Maier and sons Harrison and Bennett; and Lorne (Darcie) Maier and children Greg Perillat, Jackson Maier, and Sophia Maier; and his brother Gerhardt Maier. Norbert was predeceased by his parents Ludwig and Sophie, siblings Zita, Rita, Ferdinand, Bernadette, and Wilfred. A Private Funeral Service for Norbert has been held. Interment will take place at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Columbarium at a later date. Memorial donations in Norbert’s memory may be directed to Humboldt District Hospital Foundation.
