The Watrous Vintage Ice Oval Series is just a few weeks away, and riders are getting prepared.

The race features the Hergott Farm Equipment Point Series Championship and will take place on February 4 and 5.

“We have a multitude of races; we have two in Watrous, and two in Plunkett that are all under one race association. It’s Vintage Ice Oval racing and is divided up into snowmobile classes, and the racers compete for cash and prizes in their various class. They earn points for each race they win, and at the end of the season, the racer with the total is the overall points champion. The racers that have the most points in each class would be the Sask. Champion in each class,” said Shawn Dale, president of the Saskatchewan Vintage Oval Racers Alliance.

Admission to view the races is $10 a day or $15 for a weekend, and children 12 and under receive free admission.

Races start Saturday at 11:00 am, with Ice Bikes, Kids Races, and 2 man races taking place. Sunday will start at 11:00 am, with Ice Bikes, Kids Races, and “Vicon Classic” Races.

Dale says there will be another race in Plunkett after the Watrous races, “Two weeks from then, February 18 and 19, which is also a Saturday and Sunday. The race on Saturday is at night. We set up lights, and race underneath them.”

Racers will be competing for the many cash prizes to be won and invite everyone to come and watch.
