The Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery will be a popular place with a full slate of fun summer events.

The events begin next week!

The portrait workshop with Lorraine Jansen is scheduled for July 10th. Jansen is a talented painter and educator from the Leroy area who has worked extensively with youth and development of visual art skills. This workshop centres on techniques for creating images of people. The cost for this event is $20.00 for non-members and is free for members of the Gallery.

Jean Price with the Museum oversees the Summer Program for Kids aged 4 to 12. She explains the opening event, "The first one is on July 11 and it's called "To Love and To Paint". Students will be able to come and create inspirational messages on rocks and different media that they can take home to put in their gardens. It's something fun, happy, and beautiful to make lives a little brighter." The opening event takes place at the Gallery.

The next event on August 1 will bring out the archaeologist in any child. "Digging Archaeology" incorporates games and activities tied to the archaeological dig at original Humboldt. The Museum introduces the science of archaeology with a bit of Morse Code as a nod to the original telegraph station. Kids can learn about the process of digging and identifying artifacts while enjoying an introduction to the Humboldt area's original development.

One week later, on August 8, "Paint, Pencils and Play" takes over the Gallery. Price explains that youngsters will have access to all types of media and tools, "Participants will be able to use supplies that they might not be able to use otherwise. There will be pastels and different types of paint that may be hard to get a hold of for some, but that they might want to explore with." The end result will be pictures in different media.

The Summer Programs for Kids wraps up on August 15 with "Stitching My Mosaic" at the Museum. The Heritage Quilts will come from the Haus of Stitches to inspire youth to think about their own stories as the basis for their own quilt or mosaic. Registration for these events is now open through the Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery.
