All the excitement of the Humboldt Filipino Music and Food Festival is returning for a second year. The 2023 event is slated for June 24 and 25 at the Humboldt Uniplex Green Space, and it promises to be bigger and better in its sophomore year. It’s a great time for everyone in the Humboldt area to come out and celebrate with the area's Filipino community in a multicultural explosion of sights, sounds, and of course tastes.

The two-day event features opening ceremonies on June 24 at 10:00 am, followed by multicultural performances on stage throughout the day. Day 2 is geared to families with plenty of fun for kids of all ages.

The previous year’s event was held at Water Ridge Park, but Lorena Taquiqui, one of the organizers of the event, explains that the Uniplex location provides other benefits.

“We decided to put it out there just to have more people there,” she states. “It’s more visible to everybody in Humboldt. You will see the stage straight from the highway.”

That stage will be home to wonderful musical acts and cultural performances. Along with Humboldt and local area bands, musicians from Regina and Saskatoon will also be part of the weekend mix. The well-established acts have made their presence known on streaming services like Spotify. There will also be more games for families and kids to experience and a wide range of other activities to energize the body and excite the senses.

“We are starting the whole two days with Zumba, which is great for fitness and those who love to dance outside. We’ll start with the opening ceremonies with some Filipino folk dance. Activities continue from there as the community welcomes Filipino food vendors from the area and farther afield.

“People can expect the popular Filipino spring rolls, pork buns, noodles, and more – cuisines from all areas of the Philippines will be there, and you will have a taste of it all in the festival.”

Humboldt Early Years Family Resource Centre will be on hand with games and activities for the pre-school crowd, while old kids and adults can enjoy the art and cultural displays that represent the diverse Philippine heritage.

Lorena and the organizers and members of the community say it’s a festival for everyone in Humboldt and visitors from other areas to enjoy gathering and celebrating the cultural richness and diversity here at home.

“Everybody of all ages is invited to come. It is free entrance for everybody, and we are hoping to see everyone on those two days of music, games, fun, and lots of food.”

The event runs from 10 am to 9 pm on June 24 and 25 at the Uniplex grounds.
