An extended cold snap will bring some light snowfall to the Humboldt area early in the week.

Temperatures will hover around the minus eight to ten degree below average mark before conditions improve, says Environment Canada meteorologist, Brian Bukoski.

"We are in a cold dome of arctic air right now. It's pretty cool over most of the prairies and we are expecting those temperatures to remain the same for the next couple of days."

Bukoski says that although it isn't the extreme cold that we often see in the dead of winter, it can still drop off quite a bit.

"With the cold temperatures, bundle up and be aware that it is cold out there. The winds can increase the wind chill value in to a very uncomfortable range."

Periods of light snow will come throughout Monday and Tuesday morning, and with the wind, it can create a mess on the roads, says Bukoski.

"When you are travelling in snowy areas, be aware that reduced visibility and slippery conditions can exist in a snowfall."

After a late January warm up, the mercury flipped back to below average on February 1, and will stay that way likely until Thursday or Friday, as the arctic air moves out.
