Although Saskatchewan will have a new Premier, following Brad Wall's retirement announcement on Thursday, that doesn't change much for the opposition.

Adam Duke with the Humboldt-Watrous NDP says that despite Wall's announcement, it is still business as usual for them.

"Our focus has to be on standing up to this recent budget and the cuts to STC, senior's care, and making sure our crown corporations aren't sold off, so that will continue to be our focus no matter who their leader is."

Duke was assisting the party in Regina on the day of the announcement and will be back in Humboldt on Friday.

Although the two parties clash over issues, Duke says that Wall's time in government should be applauded.

"We certainly want to thank Premier Wall for his years of service. He has been an MLA in Swift Current for a long time and that is something that is definitely deserving of respect," he said. "I wish him the best in the future with whatever he may choose to do."

Duke was the NDP candidate for Humboldt-Watrous in the 2016 election and continues to work with the party in various roles.
