The Humboldt City Council held a council meeting on February 11th at city hall.

The meeting touched on an existing zoning bylaw to require only one parking space per 10 seats, rather than 3 stalls for places of public worship and to increase the fee for development appeals from $50 to $300. Council approved the 2nd and 3rd reading for the bylaw amendments, giving final approval and the amendment was passed. The amendment to Zoning Bylaw No. 01/2019 was officially adopted by the Council.

Also, A Discretionary Use Application was submitted by an individual intending to construct a church at 709 2nd Street. The required notices were sent to 42 recipients on January 30th to solicit comment. At the time of the hearing, one written response had been received expressing support for the application, and two opposing the application.

After some discussion addressing the concerns raised by those who were opposed, Council determined that the proposed development is not expected to have any negative effects on neighbouring uses and may act as a buffer between existing and future industrial and residential uses. Council then approved the Discretionary Use application.

Finally, A letter was received and reviewed requesting that the City of Humboldt proclaim March 6th, 2019 as “Lymphedema Awareness Day”. Council agreed that it would be an “educational day of awareness” and the Mayor has been authorized to make the proclamation, as requested.

The next council meeting takes place on February 25th, 2019.
