Students from the Horizon School Division recently received a VIP tour of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.

Over 30 Grade 8 students from Kelvington and Ituna Schools visited the building in Regina as part of a semi-annual educational program.

The 'day in the life' program saw students introduced in the House, and they were also able to look in on Question Period.

Kelvington teacher Rob Lissinna says that it was a great hands-on experience for students.

"It's a really fun, engaging way for our students to enhance what they learn in Grade 8 Social Studies. Learning from a textbook is great, but witnessing Question Period in the Chamber enables our students to live the life of a member of the Legislative Assembly for a day."

"That's really special," Lissinna added.

Following Question Period, the students were invited down to the floor to take part in a panel discussion which was led by Speaker of the House, Mark Docherty.

The panel session saw students ask questions to several elected officials, and allowed them to better understand roles of MLA's.

They also met with local MLA's for their regions, Glen Hart (Last Mountain-Touchwood) and Hugh Nerlien (Kelvington-Wadena).
